The Mount Rainier Police Department is committed to a policing model of Community Policing. Under general supervision of the Chief of Police or his designee: the Records Manager assigns, reviews and participates in the work of staff responsible for the management and operations of the Police Department’s Records Unit including arrests, booking and criminal history records; ensures work quality and adherence to established policies and procedures; serves as system administrator for the Department’s records management system (RMS); and performs the more technical and complex tasks relative to assigned area of responsibility.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

Duties include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Plan, prioritize, assign, supervise, review, and participate in the work of staff responsible for the daily operations and activities of law enforcement records management.
  • Serve as system administrator for a variety of records management and intelligence databases and systems; configure and install system components; assign police employee privileges; recommend system enhancements; coordinate and resolve software problems with vendors.
  • Establish schedules and methods for providing records management services; identify resource needs; review needs with appropriate management staff; allocate resources accordingly.
  • Coordinate, manage, and oversee the data entry of reports and information into various databases and systems; ensure accuracy and integrity of data entered; design and develop a variety of system reports.
  • Acts as the Ombudsman for the speed camera program, handling concerns, complaints, and contested citations. Also, responsible for appearing in court for scheduled court dates for those contesting citations.
  • Oversees the finance areas of the impound release fees, coordinating fine payments, for all parking citations etc.
  • Oversees the creation of purchase requisitions for the police department to submit to the city finance department.
  • Keeps the police department’s finance expenditures relating to the budget in a spreadsheet up to date.
  • Supervises the work of the Police Clerk.

 

Requirements

 

 

Required Education and Experience:

1. A combination of education, training, and experience equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade supplemented by two years of college level course work in law enforcement, public administration or a related field and five years of records management experience.

 2. Must be proficient with Microsoft office.

3. Must have the ability to able to recommend and assist in the implementation of department goals and objectives and approved policies and procedures.

Supervisory Responsibility:
This position supervises non-sworn personnel.

Physical Demands:

The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms to grasp, hold, use keyboard, and carry equipment. Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:
This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Travel:
Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-the-area and overnight travel may be expected for training purposes.
