Ideally located on the St. Mary’s Peninsula in southern Maryland, St. Mary’s County has a population of approximately 115,000. With a large coastal area and an interior made up of rolling hills, forests, and agricultural fields, it is ideal for a rural-oriented lifestyle with great recreational opportunities. The successful candidate will be a resourceful individual who can think creatively. They will have the foresight and vision to realize that the challenges inherent in this position present tremendous opportunities to build an organization from its current structure to one that is fully expected to grow exponentially both in size and structure. As such, they will mold the organization into a vision they create in unison with the County Commission and departmental leadership.
The ideal candidate will have a bachelor’s degree with a major in Fire, EMS, Public or Educational Administration, Business Administration, or a related field. Additional years of management experience will be considered in place of education. Current EVOC course completion or successful completion of EVOC within six months of hire.
Preferred Qualifications: A minimum of five (5) years’ experience in the EMS field with at least two (2) being in a management or supervisory role. You must have and maintain current certification in CPR, ACLS, PALS, EVOC, Haz-Mat operations, Incident Management Systems, ICS 100, 200, 300, 400, 700, & 800. Note: ICS 300 & 400 may be obtained within one (1) year of employment. Must be able to meet all the requirements for the Paramedics classification in St. Mary’s County. It is also preferable that you have the following credentials: 1. MFRI Instructor 2. BTLS/PHTLS 3. MFRI EMS Officer II 4. NAEMT Tactical Emergency Casualty Care or Tactical Combat Casualty Care. Residency in St. Mary’s County is preferred.
