Job Title: Deputy Director of Public Works

This position requires the applicant to be a licensed Professional Engineer in Maryland or eligible to obtain a Maryland license.
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Deputy Director of Public Works to join our team. The ideal candidate will have senior-level experience in public works management and a proven track record of successfully leading and managing large-scale infrastructure projects.
Responsibilities:
- Assist the Director of Public Works in planning, organizing, and directing the activities of the department
- Oversee the design, construction, and maintenance of public infrastructure, including roads, bridges, utilities, and public buildings
- Develop and implement departmental policies and procedures to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations
- Manage the department's budget and resources to ensure efficient and cost-effective operations
- Supervise and mentor a team of engineers, superintendents, and other staff members to ensure high performance and professional development
- Collaborate with other city departments, government agencies, and community stakeholders to coordinate public works projects and address infrastructure needs
- Represent the department at public meetings, hearings, and other events to communicate departmental initiatives and address public concerns
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, public administration, or a related field; master's degree preferred
- Professional Engineer (PE) license is required
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in public works management, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role
- Strong knowledge of public works principles, practices, and regulations
- Proven ability to manage large-scale infrastructure projects from conception to completion
- Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to collaborate with diverse stakeholders and build consensus on complex issues
- Proficiency in project management software and other relevant tools
