Position Summary:
The Neighborhood Improvement Specialist II plays a key role in inspecting and enforcing the Town of Riverdale Park's community standards (codes), which apply to residential and commercial properties. This intermediate-level role focuses on improving neighborhood quality of life, building environmental safety, and encouraging community involvement in redevelopment efforts.
Most field-based work includes direct engagement with residents, businesses, and stakeholders. Responsibilities include managing cases, negotiating improvement plans, performing follow-up inspections, and ensuring property compliance.
Compensation & Benefits:
Salary: $50,939 to $56,222 (depending on qualifications)
Bilingual Bonus: $2,080 annually for English-Spanish proficiency

Ideal Candidate Profile:
Bachelor's degree required (preferred in engineering, construction management, architecture, or public administration)
Minimum of two (2) years' experience in one or more of the following:
Community engagement
Code/law enforcement
Planning or permitting
Building/construction familiarity
Municipal operations
Proficient in Microsoft Office
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to interpret policies, work independently, and prioritize tasks
Required Abilities:

Interpret complex policies and regulations
Use discretion with sensitive information
Think critically, adapt quickly, and work under stress
Multitask and meet deadlines
Certifications & Requirements:
Within six (6) months: Must earn Property Maintenance/Housing Inspector certification (ICC)
Must maintain a valid Class D driver's license with a clean record
Department Overview:
The Office of Neighborhood Services (ONS) promotes code compliance and neighborhood safety. It supports property upkeep and community standards through permits, inspections, and licensing. The team includes two specialists and administrative support under the Development Services Department.
Physical Requirements:
Light physical work (lifting to 25 lbs)
Activities include walking, stooping, and navigating uneven terrain
Requires clear vision, hearing, and speaking abilities
