Contract Events Assistant

The City of College Park Communications and Events Department is looking for a Contract Events Assistant. Hours will vary each month based on department needs. Events are held indoors and outdoors 12 months of the year. Must be available to work the following events:  

  • Lunar New Year Event (Saturday, February 2026- Final date TBD)
  • Annual Egg Hunt (Saturday, March 2026- Final Date TBD)
  • Spring Street Fair (Sunday, May 2026- Final Date TBD)
  • Friday Night Live (2nd Friday each month, May – August, 6:30 P.M. - 8:30 P.M.)
  • Car Show (Saturday, June 21, 2025, 10 A.M.-1 P.M.)
  • Neighborhood Game Nights (July 17, 2025, July 31, 2025, August 14, 2025, 6:00 P.M. – 8:00 P.M.)
  • Latin Heritage Event (Friday, September 19, 2025, 5:00 P.M. -7:00 P.M.)
  • College Park Day (Saturday, October 18, 2025, 12 P.M. – 6:00 P.M.)
  • Winter Wonderland (Saturday, December 8, 2025, 2:00 P.M. -8:00 P.M.)

Additional hours may be available to set up before events and provide support at smaller events throughout the year.

Some duties include:

  • Assist in physical set-up and takedown of event equipment, including tables, chairs, tents, signage, etc.
  • Assist with distributing promotional materials at events.
  • Interact and communicate effectively with event teams and the public.
  • Work effectively around large crowds of people.
  • Flexibility to perform many different work duties during an event.
  • Ability to work in various weather conditions. Events are held indoors and outdoors throughout the year.
  • Other event-related tasks and duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Ability to stand on your feet for extended periods of time and work longer shifts.  
  • Comfortable lifting, bending, and moving items up to 30 pounds.
  • Ability to work in a team setting.
  • Self-starter who takes initiative on tasks and has attention to detail.
  • Time management skills to handle multiple tasks and responsibilities in a timely manner.
  • Comfortable in a fast-paced, high-energy environment.

 The minimum requirements for the position are:

  • A valid driver's license
  • A high school diploma or equivalent; previous experience volunteering or assisting with events will be a plus..
  • Ability to lift items up to 30 lbs. without assistance.

The starting hourly range is from $18.00 to $22.00, depending on experience. This position does not offer benefits.
