The Town of Williamsport, Maryland, is seeking an organized, detail-oriented, and professional individual to serve as Town Manager/Clerk. This position plays a vital role in the daily operations of town government and serves as a key point of contact for residents, elected officials, and staff.

Position Overview

The Town Clerk is responsible for performing a variety of administrative, clerical, and record-keeping duties in support of the Mayor, Town Council, and municipal operations. The Clerk ensures the accurate maintenance of official town records, provides customer service to the public, and assists with the effective functioning of local government.

Key Responsibilities

Serve as official record keeper for the Town, including ordinances, resolutions, minutes, and legal documents

Prepare agendas and minutes for Town Council meetings and other public meetings

Help with preparation of the annual town operating budget

Maintain municipal records in compliance with state and local regulations

Respond to public inquiries and provide courteous customer service

Assist with permits, licenses, and general administrative functions

Process correspondence, maintain files, and manage office communications

Coordinate public notices, meeting schedules, and legal advertisements

Support election administration and related activities

Perform additional duties as assigned by the Mayor, and Council

Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree in business, public administration, or related field preferred

Previous municipal, clerical, or administrative experience strongly preferred

Strong organizational and time-management skills

Excellent written and verbal communication abilities

Proficiency in Microsoft Office and general office technology

Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information

Knowledge of municipal government operations is a plus
