The City of Bowie is accepting applications for the positions of Water Plant Operator Trainee, Water Plant Operator, and Certified Water Plant Operator, based on qualifications. Upon completion of required training, operating on an assigned shift, the selected candidate will ultimately be responsible for operating the plant independently, while successfully executing all maintenance and other critical tasks with minimal supervision.

Minimum Qualifications:

Water Plant Trainee

• High school diploma or
• Possession of a valid class C driver’s
• Availability for weekend and shift
• Six months of related work experience; related experience may be lab work, mechanical maintenance work, utility work or engineering work.
• Ability to perform manual labor and work in confined
• Ability to pass Maryland class 4 Water Treatment Operator Certification exam within first year of employment.

Water Plant Operator

Same as Water Plant Operator Trainee, plus:

• Six months experience in water treatment plant
• Possession of MDE Water Sampling
• Must complete University of Sacramento small water systems operations

Water Plant Operator, Certified

Same as Water Plant Operator, plus:

• Must pass the MDE Class 4 Water Plant Operators Exam

SALARY: Water Plant Trainee $22.96 per hour

Water Plant Operator $24.55 - $28.25 Depending on qualifications

Water Plant Operator, Certified $28.05 - $32.25 per hour Depending on qualifications
