The Town of Hancock is accepting applications for a full-time Police Officer to serve the community through professional, ethical, and community-oriented policing.
Under the direction of the Chief of Police, the Police Officer performs law enforcement and public safety duties to protect life and property, enforce federal, state, and local laws, and maintain public order within the Town of Hancock.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Patrol assigned areas to deter crime and ensure public safety
- Enforce Maryland laws and Town ordinances
- Respond to calls for service, emergencies, and citizen complaints
- Conduct traffic enforcement, investigations, and accident reporting
- Prepare written reports and maintain accurate records
- Testify in court as required
- Engage positively with residents, businesses, and visitors
- Perform related duties as assigned
- Current Maryland law enforcement certification
- Must be at least 21 years of age
- High school diploma or GED required
- Must meet all Maryland Police Training and Standards Commission (MPTSC) requirements
- Ability to pass a background investigation, medical examination, drug screening, and psychological evaluation
- Possession of a valid driver’s license
- Ability to work rotating shifts, weekends, and holidays
- Prior law enforcement experience
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Commitment to community-oriented policing
