The Town of Greensboro, Maryland is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Chief of Police to lead a dedicated municipal police department serving a growing and close-knit community on Maryland’s Eastern Shore.
The Chief of Police serves as the senior law enforcement officer for the Town and is responsible for the administration, planning, coordination, and direction of all police department operations, personnel, budgeting, policy implementation, community engagement, and public safety initiatives.
The successful candidate will demonstrate strong leadership, professionalism, integrity, communication skills, and a commitment to community oriented policing.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Direct and supervise all operations of the Police Department
Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local laws, policies, and accreditation standards
Oversee departmental budgeting, grant administration, training, scheduling, and personnel management
Develop and maintain positive working relationships with residents, businesses, elected officials, town manager, allied agencies, and community organizations
Prepare reports, policies, and recommendations for the Mayor and Council
Manage investigations, disciplinary matters, and operational planning
Coordinate emergency response and public safety initiatives
Foster transparency, accountability, and professional standards within the department
Minimum Qualifications
Maryland Police and Correctional Training Commissions (MPCTC) certification, or ability to obtain certification in Maryland
Minimum of ten (10) years of progressively responsible law enforcement experience
Minimum of five (5) years of supervisory or command-level experience preferred
Strong administrative, leadership, and interpersonal communication skills
Experience with budgeting, personnel management, and policy administration preferred
Valid driver’s license required
Ability to pass background investigation and all applicable pre-employment requirements
Preferred Qualifications
Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice, Public Administration, or related field
Experience in municipal policing and community policing initiatives
Grant management and emergency management experience
Salary and Benefits
Salary range is $90,000 – $115,000 annually, dependent upon qualifications and experience. The Town offers a competitive benefits package including health insurance, retirement benefits, paid leave, and professional development opportunities.
