Request For Qualifications for Public Safety Services Building Project

Berwyn Heights MD - Berwyn Heights, MD
Application Deadline: Aug 5, 2026

The Town of Berwyn Heights is pleased to announce that it will officially release a Request for Qualifications (RFQ) on July 1, 2026, seeking qualified Architectural and Engineering (A/E) firms to provide professional design services for the Town's recently acquired commercial building to serve as the Public Safety Services Building located at 8824 Cunningham Drive.

The project represents a significant investment in the Town's public safety infrastructure and municipal facilities. In 2024, the Mayor and Town Council approved the acquisition of the property at 8824 Cunningham Drive to establish a permanent, Town-owned Public Safety Services Building. The project was funded through a combination of Town funds and State of Maryland bond funding and supports the Town's long-term commitment to improving municipal services while investing in the revitalization of the MD 193 corridor. The project also aligns with recommendations contained in the Approved Greenbelt Metro Area and MD 193 Corridor Sector Plan.

The renovation project will focus on the adaptive reuse of Unit B, converting the existing commercial space into a modern facility that will serve as the operational headquarters for the Berwyn Heights Police Department and the Town's Code Compliance Division. Relocating these departments into a centralized, Town-owned building will improve operational coordination, enhance service delivery, and provide residents with a dedicated public safety facility designed to meet the Town's long-term needs.

Planned improvements include a secure public entrance, administrative offices, interview rooms, conference and training space, secure evidence and records storage, ADA accessibility improvements, staff support areas, upgraded building systems, security enhancements, information technology infrastructure, emergency backup power, solar readiness, and electric vehicle charging capabilities. The project is designed to maximize the use of the existing building while minimizing unnecessary demolition through an adaptive reuse approach.

The RFQ seeks firms with experience in municipal, public safety, and adaptive reuse projects to provide comprehensive architectural, engineering, permitting, bidding assistance, project management, and construction administration services throughout the design and construction process.

The RFQ will be available beginning July 1, 2026, through the Town's procurement webpage. Interested firms will have the opportunity to participate in a virtual pre-proposal conference and scheduled site visits before submitting their qualifications.
