Starting salary: $78,000 (may negotiate for candidates with direct applicable experience). The City of Brunswick also offers an excellent benefits package available on the first day of employment, including health, leave, retirement, and other employer-provided benefits. This is an exempt position and is not eligible for overtime.

Looking for a leadership role where your work is visible throughout the community? The City of Brunswick is hiring a Maintenance Superintendent to help guide the daily work that keeps our streets, parks, public grounds, buildings, and infrastructure safe, reliable, and well maintained.

This position is a good fit for someone who enjoys leading a team, solving practical problems, planning work in the field, and helping a growing community run smoothly. While the role includes supervisory and emergency response responsibilities, the day-to-day focus is on supporting crews, coordinating projects, communicating clearly, and making sure the right people, equipment, and materials are in place to get the job done.

What Does a Typical Day Look Like as Maintenance Superintendent?

  • Start the day by checking in with maintenance crews, reviewing priorities, and adjusting schedules as needed.
  • Visit job sites to review progress, answer questions, inspect work, and make sure projects are moving safely and efficiently.
  • Coordinate street, stormwater, sidewalk, park, public grounds, snow removal, and facility maintenance activities.
  • Help plan upcoming projects, order materials, manage equipment needs, and keep operations ready for changing conditions.
  • Work with employees on training, safety practices, performance expectations, and daily problem-solving.
  • Communicate with City staff, contractors, utility operations, and residents when maintenance issues need attention.
  • Respond to urgent or after-hours maintenance needs when they arise, with support from the Public Works team.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Minimum of eight (8) years of progressively responsible maintenance or public works experience.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Proficiency with technology and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Must have or be able to obtain the following licenses within a several year period:
  • Permanent Maryland Water Distribution Operator Grade D1 License.
  • SHA Traffic Control Manager Certification.
  • Maryland Pesticide Applicator License.
  • Valid CDL.
  • Local government experience preferred.

The successful candidate must possess strong leadership, communication, project management, and problem-solving skills and be capable of making independent operational decisions during regular and emergency situations.
