The City of Glenarden is seeking a dependable, service-oriented individual to provide event setup, breakdown, custodial, and facility support for the Gold Room, Community Center, and, when required, the Nutrition Center.  The successful candidate will assist with preparing City facilities for scheduled events, maintaining clean and safe event spaces, and ensuring rooms are properly arranged and restored before and after events. The position requires flexibility and availability to work evenings, late nights, weekends, and holidays based on scheduled events and operational needs. This position reports directly to the Events Manager.

PRIMARY FUNCTIONS: 

Event Setup & Breakdown

  • Set up and break down the Gold Room, Community Center, and, when required, Nutrition Center spaces for scheduled events.
  • Arrange tables, chairs, staging, and other equipment in accordance with event requirements, banquet event orders (BEOs), floor plans, and instructions.
  • Reset rooms to standard configurations following events or prepare spaces for upcoming activities.
  • Ensure setup and breakdown assignments are completed accurately and within established timelines.

Facility Maintenance & Cleanliness

  • Maintain the cleanliness and appearance of event and facility spaces before, during, and after scheduled events.
  • Mop, vacuum, and clean hallways, lobbies, kitchen entrances, dance floors, and other assigned areas.
  • Ensure restrooms remain clean, sanitary, fully stocked, and ready for use during events.
  • Perform routine restroom cleaning and replenish supplies as needed.

Custodial & Sanitation Duties

  • Clean kitchen equipment and food-service areas as needed to support catering preparation and facility sanitation.
  • Properly use cleaning supplies, equipment, and personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Follow established safety, sanitation, and waste-disposal procedures.

Operational Support

  • Provide custodial and facility-related assistance to the Department of Public Works as needed.
  • Assist with general facility readiness to promote safe and efficient operations.
  • Respond to changing event and operational needs in a timely and professional manner.

 QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Basic vocational or technical training in event setup, hospitality, facilities maintenance, or a related field is preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record is required.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • One (1) year of experience in banquet operations, hospitality, event support, facilities maintenance, custodial services, or a related field.
  • Experience setting up and breaking down event spaces, including arranging tables, chairs, staging, and equipment.
  • Experience performing custodial duties and maintaining facilities or event spaces in a clean, orderly, and sanitary condition.
  • Working knowledge of event and banquet facility operations, including room setup, breakdown, and configurations.
  • Knowledge of custodial practices, cleaning methods, cleaning agents, sanitation procedures, and proper waste disposal.
  • Basic knowledge of workplace safety practices, PPE requirements, and hazard recognition.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities and tight timelines.
  • Ability to work independently and cooperatively as part of a team.
  • Strong interpersonal and customer-service skills when interacting with City staff, vendors, guests, and members of the public.

This is a part-time permanent position. Applicants must be 21 years of age or older to operate equipment.  Work schedules are based primarily on scheduled events and departmental requirements and may include evenings, late nights, weekends, and holidays. The employee must be available to work on-site during assigned Gold Room, Community Center, and/or other City events.  Employment is contingent upon the successful completion of a fingerprint screening, comprehensive background investigation, driving record, and drug and alcohol screening.
