Director of Public Works

The Town of Cheverly, Maryland, invites qualified candidates to apply for the Director of Public Works position. The Director leads the department responsible for the Town’s infrastructure, streets, facilities, parks, equipment, and related community services.

Candidates should demonstrate strong leadership; financial and project management; written and verbal communication; problem-solving; public engagement; and knowledge of public works regulations and procurement practices. The selected candidate must pass a background check and drug screening and be available for evenings, weekends, and emergencies as needed.

• Lead department operations, staffing, performance, policies, and service planning; mentor managers and employees.
• Maintain and improve streets, sidewalks, stormwater systems, parks, public facilities, vehicles, and equipment.
• Prepare and administer operating and capital budgets; monitor spending and oversee purchases and contracts.
• Plan and deliver construction, road repair, facility, and other capital projects with schedules, budgets, and clear coordination among Town staff, contractors, and consultants.
• Maintain compliance with applicable environmental, public health, workplace safety, and other requirements; provide safety training and oversight.
• Plan for and direct Public Works responses to snow, flooding, severe weather, and other emergencies.
  Respond to resident concerns and provide timely reports and recommendations to the Town Administrator and Town Council.
